Mario Bellini
Mario Bellini is an Italian designer and architect, born in 1935. He studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan and started his own studio in 1962. His work is diverse and conceptual, with a strong focus on proportions and shapes. This helps him combine form and function well in furniture, industrial design, and architecture. He has had a big influence on Italian design and has won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) eight times. From 1985 to 1991, he was editor of Domus magazine. In 2015, he received the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement from the Milan Triennale, which also held a major exhibition of his work in 2017. Together with HAY, he reissued the Amanta Sofa, a design from 1966 that is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
